Mrs Black Pudding visits O’Connells

Date: January 18th, 2011

We were honoured to welcome Nora Egan energetic 90+ Mum - the owner of her Black Pudding Recipe! A member of the staff rushed in to tell the Chef 'Mrs Black Pudding' is in the restaurant'. 'Mrs Black Pudding' insisted on ordering the Black Pudding as on the menu with Bramley Apple Compote, Grainy Mustard Sauce and O'Connells Crispy Potatoes. After much care and attention in the kitchen the dish was finally served. Mrs BP pronounced - Perfect!  Relief all round. A great Mother and Daughter duo of real Irish Food Producers.

Our Lobster & Oyster Tank has left The Gold Coast of Australia

Date: September 24th, 2010

Mike Hanrahan of Austmarine in Brisbane, Australia has sent us this reassuring photo. We were straight on to Terry Butterly in Annagassan, Co Louth to remind him to plan for our Native Irish Lobster and Oyster requirements. We also have to figure out how to get a 'truck load' of sea water from the coast to Donnybrook.

Bread Loaves

August 28th., 2010 - We were delighted to read the following advice from a contributor to The Irish Coeliac Society's Blog ...

If you're planning your travel itinerary the GF Fish & Chips in Mespil Row, Dublin 2 only take place on Saturday and Sundays. They are really lovely!

If O'Connell's restaurant is open in its' new premises by then in Donnybrook, Dublin, they are excellent: http://www.oconnellsdonnybrook.com/ . Roly's Bistro in Ballsbridge is also supposed to be good for GF food: www.rolysbistro.ie and is beside the American Embassy too!

I've heard the Bay Tree Restaurant in Kildare are good for GF, haven't yet been: http://www.thebaytree.ie/

Thank you for making Mum’s 70th Birthday so special

Date: November 2nd, 2009

Hi Tom,

I just wanted to let you know how delighted we were with the way things went on Friday night. Everyone had a wonderful time and the food was effusively complimented by all. The room looked magnificent and Eamon Monaghan on the piano really added to a wonderful atmosphere. I must particularly compliment you and your team for taking everything, from last minute cancellations by several of our party to the presence of a table of younger diners, in your stride. We were very well looked after in a charming and good humoured fashion by the whole team and things could not have been better.

Mum was thrilled and that is largely down to you all.

Many thanks once again,

Eleanor

Christmas is Coming

Date: October 20th, 2009

Christmas is coming. We are having great fun here tasting our Sherry Trifle. Ah the memories! It is quite amazing how food smells and flavours can transport us to our childhood. On Sunday, I walked Cullohill 'Mountain' in my native village in Co Laois, collected Blackberries and Hazelnuts. Then back to my Brothers House for 'Cullohill Apple Tart' ... available each day of the year here in O'Connells in Ballsbridge. Email us for the recipe! Click on 'Occasions' on this site for our Christmas Menus.

Georgina Campbell’s Ireland Guide’s Just Ask Restaurant of the Month October 2009

Date: October 15th, 2009

Just Ask!” is a public awareness campaign that aims to encourage consumers when eating out to look for information on where the food (particularly meat) on their plate comes from, and encourages chefs to provide this information on their menus. The programme supports both large and smaller artisan suppliers, encouraging both Irish diners and visitors from abroad to support restaurants that are in turn supporting their suppliers.

O'Connells Ballsbridge is October, 2009's Just Ask Restaurant of the Month.
